FAQs — The Lovejoy Foundation (2024)

FAQs

  • Overpopulation Control: Spaying and neutering help reduce the number of unwanted animals, thereby addressing the issue of pet overpopulation. This, in turn, alleviates the strain on animal shelters and reduces the number of animals euthanized each year due to lack of homes.

Health Benefits: Spaying and neutering can significantly improve the health and well-being of animals. Spayed females are less likely to develop uterine infections and certain types of cancer, while neutered males are less prone to testicular cancer and prostate problems.

Behavioral Benefits: Spaying and neutering can also help curb undesirable behaviors, such as roaming, marking territory, aggression, and mating-related behaviors. This can make pets more manageable and easier to train, leading to happier and healthier relationships between pets and their owners.

  • The animals at The Lovejoy Foundation come from various situations, including overcrowded shelters, high-kill facilities, the street, and situations of neglect, abuse, or abandonment. We strive to rescue animals in need, providing them with a second chance at a loving and fulfilling life.

  • Thank you for considering supporting The Lovejoy Foundation! Your donations play a vital role in our mission to rescue and care for animals in need. Here's how you can make a difference:

Online Donations: Visit our donations page to contribute through secure platforms like Paypal or Venmo. We encourage you to consider a recurring monthly donation, providing sustained support for our work.

Amazon Wishlist: Help us meet the essential needs of our rescued animals by purchasing items from our Amazon Wishlist. Your contributions directly benefit the well-being and comfort of the animals in our care.

Corporate Matching: Maximize the impact of your donation through your company's match program. By participating, you can double the value of your contribution, amplifying its effect on our rescue efforts.

    Your Support in Action:

Direct Impact: Rest assured that your donations go directly toward the rescue, rehabilitation, and well-being of the animals we save. Your generosity sustains our operations and enables us to provide immediate medical attention and care to dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens rescued from the streets.

Preventing Euthanasia: As a street dog rescue organization, we work tirelessly to halt the flow of animals being taken to kill shelters and facing euthanasia. With your support, we can continue to save and offer a second chance to abandoned, neglected, and abused animals.

    Every Contribution Matters:

No donation is too small, and every little bit counts in making a significant impact on the lives of neglected and discarded animals. Your generosity provides them with hope, healing, and a chance for a better future.

Thank you for your compassion and commitment to animal welfare. Together, we can make a positive difference in the lives of these deserving creatures.

  • The Lovejoy Foundation follows a comprehensive adoption process to ensure that each animal finds the ideal forever home. Here is a general overview of our adoption process:

Application: Interested individuals or families begin by filling out an adoption application.

Adoption Event Meet and Greet: Come to one of our adoption events, Saturday or Sunday 11am-5pm to meet your forever pal! Please bring all of the family members that will be living with your new animal. Here you will meet the animal(s) you are interested in adopting and see if there is a good match in terms of temperament, compatibility, and connection.

In-Person Interview: The Lovejoy Foundation reviews the adoption application to assess the compatibility between the applicant and the available dogs. Erin Lovejoy will conduct an interview and request additional information if necessary.

Home Visit: The Lovejoy Foundation may conduct a home visit to ensure that the environment is safe and suitable for the dog. This visit helps them assess factors such as living arrangements, yard space, and potential hazards.

Adoption Fee and Agreement: If all goes well and the adoption is approved, an adoption fee of $550 is required to help cover the costs associated with the dog's care. The Lovejoy Foundation also requires the signing of an adoption agreement, outlining the responsibilities and expectations of the adopter.

Transition and Support: Once the adoption is finalized, you will receive the necessary paperwork and guidance on how to integrate the dog into your home and any vaccination or medical follow ups needed. The Lovejoy Foundation will provide support, advice, and resources to help ensure a successful transition and adjustment period.

  • The adoption fee is $550.

This fee covers spay/neuter, microchip, rabies, (3) rounds of DHPP and Bordetella, parasite treatment, and access to our boarding, grooming and daycare facilities for the life of your pet (with advanced notice).

  • We do not usually adopt outside of the Southern California but each situation can present circumstances that allow an adoption outside of the area to be considered.

  • First, please fill out our Volunteer Waiver. If you are hoping to help walk dogs at our weekend adoption events, please join us Saturday or Sunday at 2:30pm for a volunteer orientation. Once orientation is completed you can help walk dogs at any future weekend adoption event.

If you would like to volunteer your time and marketing, operations, social media, grant writing, content creation or business management skills please fill out our waiver and then email us at records@lovejoyfoundation.org and let us know how you can help!

  • The Lovejoy Foundation supports owner surrenders and offers resources to help you responsibly and safely re-home your dog(s). We know there are many reasons why this situation comes up for people, we do not judge.

Many times there are resources that can support keeping your dog with you, we will walk you through those options. If all options have been explored and are not a fit and we have the space, we can ensure the re-homing of your dog to a perfect forever loving home through our adoption resources.

With the current influx of dogs being abandoned and needing re-homing, we are limited in our abilities to help based on the space we have available.
