What You’ll Need
Below are the 4 ingredients you’ll need to make this decadent peanut butter dessert. They are basic, inexpensive items you may find at any store. Scroll to the recipe card below for measurements!
- Heavy cream: This is the base of the peanut butter mousse recipe. I whip the cream until it’s light and fluffy and add the other ingredients. This ensures it has the light and airy texture of a traditional mousse.
- Peanut butter: I chose peanut butter because it’s rich, creamy, sweet, and a little salty! It’s a balanced ingredient and one of my favorites to use in desserts.
- Powdered sugar: This is the best sweetener for no-bake desserts because it combines with other ingredients seamlessly and doesn’t have the gritty texture of granulated sugar.
- Milk: I add a little whole milk to get the final mousse to my desired consistency. You may adjust the milk to more or less depending on your preference.

How to Make Peanut Butter Mousse
Here are the directions to ensure you make a light and airy mousse every time. It’s straightforward even if you’ve never tried a recipe like this before!
- Beat the heavy cream. Pour the heavy whipping cream into a medium mixing bowl and beat it with an electric mixer for 2-3 minutes or until stiff peaks form.
- Combine the remaining ingredients. In a separate large bowl, combine the peanut butter and powdered sugar until they are well incorporated. Then, add a small amount of milk (or heavy cream) at a time and stir until the peanut butter mixture is smooth and creamy.

- Fold in the whipped cream. Start by adding half of the whipped cream to the peanut butter mixture and gently fold the ingredients together until they are mostly combined. Then, fold in the remaining whipped cream until there are no streaks.
- Divide the mousse into serving glasses. Grab four 6 oz serving glasses or even ramekins. Divide the mousse evenly into them and spread the top evenly. You may even use a piping bag for this.

- Cover and chill. Cover each cup tightly with plastic wrap and place them in the refrigerator for a minimum of 2 hours to set.
- Garnish and serve. Add your favorite toppings like chocolate sauce, peanuts, etc.., and enjoy chilled!

Tips for Success
- Use chilled heavy cream. As mentioned above, the heavy cream whips best when it is very cold. I like to leave it in the refrigerator until the last second before I am ready to use it to ensure the whipped cream comes out perfectly every time. You may even put it back into the fridge after it’s whipped to ensure it stays cold while you work on other elements.
- Make it sweeter. Add additional powdered sugar for a sweeter mousse. Start with 1 tablespoon and adjust up to 2 additional tablespoons based on your preference. I enjoy it less sweet so the peanut butter flavor can shine.
- Try a peanut-free version. Make this mousse using a different nut butter. This is a great alternative if you have a peanut allergy. Almond butter and sunflower butter make fantastic substitutes in this recipe.

Proper Storage and Serving
Serve in individual bowls by itself or your favorite toppings like chocolate chips, crushed cookies or a drizzle of chocolate sauce. This is also great used as a filling for cakes or even a topping for cupcakes!
Store this peanut butter mousse in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days. I don’t recommend freezing the leftovers because it can change the texture as it thaws. I find it is thin and watery.

Ingredients
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream chilled
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/3 cup powdered sugar
- 2 Tablespoons milk or additional heavy cream
- Optional toppings shaved chocolate, chocolate chips, roasted peanuts, Nutter Butter cookies, whipped cream
Instructions
Pour the chilled heavy whipping cream into a large mixing bowl. Beat with an electric mixer on medium-high speed until soft peaks form. This should take about 2-3 minutes. Set aside in the fridge to keep cold.
In another bowl, mix the peanut butter and powdered sugar together. Add 1 tablespoon of milk or heavy cream at a time, stirring after each addition, until the mixture becomes smooth and spreadable.
Gently fold half of the whipped cream into the peanut butter mixture. Use a spatula and fold slowly to keep the mousse light and airy.
Once incorporated, fold in the remaining whipped cream until no streaks remain. Stop folding as soon as the mixture looks uniform to avoid deflating it.
Divide the mousse evenly into four 6 ounce cups or serving glasses. Smooth the tops with the back of a spoon, or use a piping bag with a star tip for a different presentation.
Cover each serving with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the mousse to set properly.
Before serving, decorate each mousse with your choice of toppings like shaved chocolate, chocolate chips, roasted peanuts, a dollop of whipped cream, or crumbled Nutter Butter cookies.
Serve chilled and enjoy!

Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- For a nuttier flavor, swirl in a tablespoon of finely chopped roasted peanuts while folding in the whipped cream.
- Feel free to use natural or homemade peanut butter, but note that it may result in a slightly looser texture.
- If you prefer a sweeter mousse, increase the powdered sugar by 1-2 tablespoons, based on your taste.
- Mini chocolate chips, crushed pretzels, or a drizzle of chocolate or caramel sauce can be mixed in or used as a topping.
- Almond butter, cashew butter, or sun butter can replace the peanut butter for a different flavor profile.
